Cody Ryan (b.1993) is a new media + technology sculptor, based out of Chicago, focused on creating unique, and tantalizing, illuminated objects through combinations of LEDs and incandescent light, micro-controllers, glass, solid acrylic, wood, metal, and anything else he can get his hands on; especially if it lights up! He studies the way light permeates throughout various materials and leverages cutting-edge technology, such as the Arduino micro-controller family, to embellish his objects with randomized animation sequences. The resulting animations do not repeat and remain unpredictable, organic, and ever-changing. In addition to the innate pleasure one may gain from watching one of his light objects, Cody employs these creations as teaching tools, hoping to bridge the gap between technology and art, and inspire others to create in their own way. In addition, Cody captures the light art his objects produce, with the resulting images displaying a richness of detail hardly seen by the naked eye. If you have any questions, or are just curious about his process, feel free to contact him. Thank you!
